Future Leaders

New Pathways to Active Participation in Decision-Making

An Erasmus+ KA2 cooperation project aimed at strengthening young people’s active civic engagement and their participation in decision-making processes. It responds to the visibly low level of youth participation in public life and the lack of connection between young people and local decision-makers. The project pays equal attention to the specific characteristics of rural, small-town, and urban contexts.

Implemented by partner organizations from Slovenia, Italy, and Romania, the project places youth workers at the center as key actors in supporting youth participation. Through two international training courses and an online learning programme, youth workers develop essential competences such as communication, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, public speaking, and needs assessment.

At the local level, led by the youth workers, young people and decision-makers engage in real-life collaborations, testing concrete participation methods including simulation games, mentorship programmes, youth council and mock government models, youth-led local projects, digital tools, and creative, experience-based participatory formats. These activities foster mutual understanding, break down stereotypes, and initiate long-term dialogue between young people and decision-makers.

One of the project’s most visible outcomes is a methodology-focused website featuring written resources and video materials, ensuring that the carefully selected, tested, and applied methods remain accessible to a wide audience in the long term.

Through local activities, international training courses, and an online educational platform, Future Leaders supports active citizenship and strengthens youth work in creating more inclusive and participatory communities.
